Hello, Murphy Mustangs!
My name is Amy Fenton and I have been teaching in Haslett Schools for eighteen years! It's hard to believe it's been that long. Along with teaching music at Murphy, I also teach four of the first grade classes at Wilkshire.
I am a graduate of The University of Arizona. I hold a Bachelor of Music Degree with a major in Vocal Performance and a minor in flute. I then continued my coursework to earn my Music Education Post-Baccalaureate Degree, which certifies me to teach K-12 music. I also hold a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University.
Music has always been a very important thing in my life and I enjoy sharing that love of music with my students. I have extensive training and certification in the music education approach of Orff Schulwerk. In a nutshell, students in Orff Schulwerk classrooms build musicianship through the integration of music, movement, speech and drama. Students learn through what they do naturally: PLAY!
Outside of school, I serve on the Executive Committee of the National Board of Trustees for the American Orff-Schulwerk as Treasurer. I also teach continuing education courses for music teachers in the summer and travel throughout the United States as a clinician for music educators.
My husband, Todd, is a forensic anthropologist and professor at Michigan State University. We enjoy traveling in the summers and enjoy spending time with our cockatiel, Peaches. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking and gardening.
