Mrs. Mahon

Hello Fifth Graders and Families,

Again this year, the always fabulous Mrs. Lerch and I will team teach our two classes. We will also work closely with the other two fantastic fifth grade teachers, Mr. Hatch and Mrs. Rios. We will all work together to make it the best fifth grade year possible for all our students and families. I am very excited to get started on all the learning we will do this year.

This is my 21st year of teaching in Haslett Public Schools. I got my 20 year pin at our beginning of the year work days! I have taught kindergarten as well as third grade and this will be my 13th year of teaching fifth graders. I earned a Bachelor of Science from Michigan State University in Nutrition and received my Elementary Education certification and a Master's Degree in Curriculum Development from Spring Arbor University. I also have a ZA endorsement in early childhood development. I am certified to teach K-5, All Subjects, and Grades 6-8, Science.

My wonderful husband, Mike, and I will celebrate our 31st Anniversary in November and we have lived in Haslett for 30 years. We have two delightful daughters, Kate and Tara, ages 28 and 24 years old, who both went to school at Murphy. As a family, we like to travel, be outdoors, and spend time together. We also have a very large and adorable dog, Sonny, who loves to go on walks and catch frisbees. In my free time, I love to be outside doing almost anything! I enjoy gardening, birding, photography, and reading great books.

This summer, I spent time with family and friends.  I traveled to Kansas for a family reunion with my mother, Montana for a family event in rememberance of my father, visited Glacier National Park, went to Chicago to visit Kate and her puppy, Elsa, and Washington D.C. to visit Tara. We also had the First Annual Mahon Family Reunion at our home in August. I had a wonderful summer, I hope you did as well!

I am very excited to get back to school with my new students and look forward to a great school year together!

Welcome back!
