Response to Intervention/Multi-Tiered Systems of Support

Essential Components

In 2009, Haslett Public Schools partnered with Ingham Intermediate School District (IISD) and Michigan's Integrated Behavior and Learning Support Initiative (MiBLSi) to support Response to Intervention (RtI) and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) at Wilkshire Early Childhood Center, Ralya Elementary, Murphy Elementary, Haslett Middle School and Haslett High School. The eight core essential components of RtI are:

*Universal Screening
*Data-Based Decision Making
*Shared Leadership
*Progress Monitoring
*Research-Based Instruction and Interventions
*Problem Solving
*Tiered Systems
*Parent Involvement

Haslett Schools is pleased with the success of our students.  Their achievements have exceeded our expectations.

What is RtI/MTSS?

Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered Systems of Support integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level prevention system to maximize student achievement and to reduce behavior problems.  Our schools identify students at risk, monitor student progress, provide evidence-based interventions, and identify students with learning disabilities.

An important component of an effective RtI and MTSS framework is the quality of the core curriculum, where all students receive high quality instruction and is aligned to the state's achievement standards.  In a well designed RtI system, the primary prevention should be effective and sufficient for about 80 percent of the student population.
