Parent Involvement

Parents play a central role in the education of their children, and the Haslett Board of Education supports active parental involvement.  Parents are encouraged to maintain regular contact with their children's teachers and to volunteer in classrooms.  It is the expectation that parents will attend planned parent conferences, school open houses, and visitation days. 

Administrators, teachers, and other employee groups are also encouraged to actively participate with our school and parent organizations.  These organizations work closely with the Board of Education and other school personnel on projects that benefit school or district programs.  For a listing of school/parent organizations, see website information under "About Our Schools."

Parent Involvement in the School Program - Board Policy 2112

It is recognized and appreciated that parents/guardians are the "first teachers" of their children, and that their interest and involvement in the education of their children should not diminish once their child enters the schools of the district.  The Board encourages parental/guardian involvement in the following ways:

• Development and review of instructional materials
• Input on the ways the district may better provide information concerning laws, regulations and instructional programs
• Training opportunities on how to become more involved in the education of their children 

Parent Participation in Title I Programs - Board Policy 2261.01

Wilkshire Early Childhood Center and Ralya Elementary School receive funds from the federal Title I Part A Program.  This federal supplemental program is designed to help children reach high standards.  In receiving funds from this program, the district is required to inform you regarding the professional qualifications of your child's classroom teachers. 

The following information will be provided to you upon request and in a timely manner.

• Whether your child's teacher has met Michigan qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
• Whether your child's teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which Michigan qualifications for licensing criteria have been waived.
• The Baccalaureate degree major of your child's teacher and any other graduate certificate or degree held by the teacher, and the field of discipline of the certificate or degree.
• Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals, and if so, their qualifications.

You will also receive timely notice if your child is assigned or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not highly qualified.
