August/September

  • CHAMP (Cooperative Highly Accelerated Math Program) - Weekly classes for highly academic math students in grades 7-10 on the campus of Michigan State University.  CHAMP is an academic year-long program designed to teach students the required four-year high school mathematics curriculum in two years.
  • ISHALL (Intensive Study in Humanties, Arts, Language and Literature) - Weekly classes for highly motivated English students in grades 7-10 on the campus of Michigan State University.  ISHALL is an academic year-long program designed to cover four years of high school English curriculum in two years.

October/November

  • District GT Parent Meeting - This informational meeting occurs in the fall of each school year.  Administrators from each building, as well as counselors from the high school, provide parents with information about programs for high achieving students.  Representatives from Ingham Intermediate School District, Michigan State University and Lansing Community College present specific program offerings coordinated by their institution.
  • GATE Saturday School - An enrichment program that offers classes in arts, science and technology to students in grades 2-8 who have exceptional potential in the visual or performing arts, science, and technology, or those students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability in a particular subject area.

January

  • NUMATS - Above grade level testing program to identify academically talented students.

February

  • High Achievers Colloquium - A four-week program for students in grades 9-12 which gives them an early glimpse of life in college classes.  High Achiever participants take honors-level college classes taught by Michigan State University’s most prestigious professors.  The courses expose high school students to cutting-edge research technologies and advanced university resources.
  • Grade 6 Girls Math, Science & Technology Conference - A half-day, hands-on program designed to expose young girls in grade 6 to Discovery Presenters.  There are special topics for parents and educators.

April/May

  • GATE Saturday School - An enrichment program that offers classes in arts, science and technology to students in grades 2-8 who have exceptional potential in the visual or performing arts, science, and technology, or those students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability in a particular subject area.

June/July/August 

  • Dimensions - A two-week, non-residential program designed to give high-ability students in grades 7-8 an opportunity to study in a university setting with peers who have been identified as having similar abilities.  Students will participate in two academic classes and one special area class.
  • MASCOT (Mathematics Augmentation Series:  Cultivating Optimum Teaching) – Mathematics program designed to serve students in grade 6 who have been identified as having potential for learning advanced mathematics but lack some of the skills necessary for total success.  This program model allows for development in the content area of mathematics, as well as for better self-understanding through the use of specific guidance, strategies and techniques.
  • CSI Forensic Science - A week-long day camp or residential program on the campus of Michigan State University that allows students in grades 7-9 the chance to live the life of a crime scene investigator.  Students will learn the tools and techniques of forensic science, analyze mock crime scenes and present their findings at a mock trial in front of a real prosecuting attorney and judge.
  • Kids College - A two-week, half-day program designed for students in grades 4-5 with a high interest in science.  The program is an interdisciplinary approach to studying science and technology.
  • MST (Mathematics, Science, Technology) – A two-week long residential program on the campus of Michigan State University for students in grades 7-9.  A few of the class offerings in this program are classes in nuclear astrophysics, physiology and soccer. The camp mixes fun with academics, giving students the chance to push themselves academically and make friends with students who love learning as much as they do.
