The Haslett Board of Education, Haslett’s Voices for Change, Haslett Administrators, and staff worked with Dr. Terry Flennaugh, Associate Professor of Urban Education Initiatives at Michigan State University, to begin development of a District Equity Plan.
-
Dr. Flennaugh met with district groups throughout the 2020-21 school year to familiarize staff with the components of social justice, recognizing bias, and the importance of equity in education.
-
In March of 2021, the district distributed a survey to parents, students, staff, alumni, and other community members to gather feedback about equity regarding students and staff as well as solicit interest in helping the district develop an Equity Plan. Over 1,100 people responded and over 100 indicated interest in serving on the Equity Planning Committee.
