  • GENERAL QUESTIONS for Online Courses

    • How much does it cost? There is no cost for these classes if taken during the school year. Classes cost $325.00 each for students during the summer.

    • Which students can take online classes? Haslett A+ Virtual Academy currently serves grades 6-12.

    • Will taking an online course help prepare my student for college? Yes, online courses use teacher-proven instructional strategies with today’s technology to equip students with the skills they will need to be successful in the global marketplace. "More than a quarter of higher education students (28 percent) are enrolled in at least one online course. (EdTech, 2016)

    • Will Haslett A+ Virtual Academy credits be accepted if my student transfers to another school?  Yes, Michigan public school credits will be accepted in other school districts.

    • Is there a counselor to help with class selection and college transition issues?  Yes, students have counselors assigned to them at each building.

    • If a student is having some problems in a subject area, is there help available? A mentor teacher will be available, in-person, by email, or phone for questions related to online content and technology support. But for subject or content area questions, there are also certificated teachers online that these courses to our students and are available through phone and email. 

    • Approximately how long does it take to complete one course? Each semester course is 18 weeks of work to complete for credit.  Based on a student’s skill level and content knowledge, he or she may finish early.  During the summer, semester courses are offered during the 10 week summer program. 

    • Can they get access to classes earlier if they would like? Students are guaranteed access to classes as of the start date of any semester. Some programs may be accessible earlier depending when they register.

    • What happens if the student does not like a class? Online classes can be dropped before the final drop date. We suggest that students begin working right away in courses to see if the course meets their expectations. 

    • How much time per day do online classes require?  It is recommended that for EACH online course, students plan to spend about 1 hour each day, 5 days per week. This is an average, and it is the same with core or elective courses.

    • Can final exams be taken at home? Students in grades 9-12 MUST take all of their final exams at one of our labs if they are taking the course for credit.

    • What is a Mentor Teacher? Mentors are your “go to” people. They serve as online coaches to help students navigate their classes, solve problems, offer encouragement, and check progress. 

    • How is grading handled for online courses?  Content Teachers report the grades to students and their mentor through the online class portal. Currently there are only letter grades. The mentor then transfers the grade to school counselors who will put the grade in Skyward to be calculated into the student’s GPA.
