Degrees and Certifications:
Hello Murphy Families! My name is Kristine Megge and I would like to WELCOME you and your child to Second Grade and Room 200! I'm so glad that you are going to be a part of our classroom community this year. We will have many adventures together! I can't wait to get to know you and your child!
Now, a little about me...
Before teaching Second Grade at Murphy, I taught preschool, first grade, and outdoor education. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Earth Science and Natural Resource Conservation, a Bachelor of Science in Education with endorsements in Science, Language Arts, and Child Development, and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Central Michigan University. Fire Up Chips!
I am a National Writing Project Teacher Consultant and a fellow of the Red Cedar Writing Project at Michigan State University. During the summer, I enjoy being a teacher consultant for Spartan Writers Camp. Go Green! Go White!
I have completed 21 Things 4 Teachers. This program explores the 21 "must have" technology resources (referred to as "things") that all teachers should be proficient in. I am also participating in Haslett's Blended Learning Initiative this school year. Effective technology integration is important to me!
John Cotton Dana once said, "Who dares to teach must never cease to learn." I truly believe that quote, therefore this summer I attended professional development workshops, worked with colleagues, and read lots of new literature. I went to Nerd Camp again! It is always so much FUN!. I am looking forward to implementing what I have learned from my summer professional development into the classroom! Teaching provides me with an opportunity for continual learning and growth. I hope to inspire the children in my classroom to be great learners, as I share my passion for learning with them!
Outside of classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I spent time up north; hiking, swimming, and boating. I LOVE watching and playing sports! I climbed Mt. Elbert, the tallest mountain in North America with my son, and completed my first Ironman this past summer. I also enjoy reading (I read lots of books this summer!), journaling, nature hikes, bird watching, and trips to the beach to collect shells. I also have a cat named JJ that loves lots of attention.
I am excited about providing challenging learning experiences as well as creating a caring, reflective, and supportive classroom community. Making learning both engaging and purposeful for my young learners is my ultimate goal! I look forward to working and learning with you and your child this school year!
It is going to be an amazing time together!
