Hello! 

My name is Mrs. Claire Peterson, and I am so excited to be the new DK-1st grade music teacher at Wilkshire Early Childhood Center! 

This is my 5th year teaching elementary general music. I previously taught TK-4th grade general music for 4 years. I am a proud alum of Michigan State University and I am currently working on receiving my Masters in Music Education from Eastern Michigan University in the evenings. Outside of school, I love to read and I am a group fitness instructor!

I believe that every child is musical. As humans, the ability to audiate (to think and understand music in our brains) makes us unique as a species. Before we are born, we start to develop our musical abilities. Those abilities grow and grow with more exposure to musical experiences. I believe it is my duty to facilitate those musical experiences with children and to help them grow in the most musical way possible. 

In music class, we use the 2014 National Standards for Music Education along with several general music approaches (including Music Learning Theory, Orff, Kodaly, and Feierabend) to create a developmentally appropriate DK-1st grade music program. We will be singing, dancing, creating, improvising, composing, chanting, playing instruments, responding, exploring and much much more! 

I am so excited to get to know each and every one of the students at Wilkshire and become part of the family here.
